Author’s Note:

It’s 2009. The recession is in full swing. I have two kiddos – one age eight and one age two. I had modest success with The Magic Mole and loved the process of writing, so I was inspired to write and prove to myself that I could complete a second book. At first, it came flowing out of me, but at a couple points, progress stalled. Had it not been for my #1 fan, an amazing young person from the east coast who I never met, the series may have ended then. But knowing I had a fan plus my friends and family waiting to read more, I had just enough steam to get over the blocks.

Working part-time and going totally broke, I finished New Alliances and immediately self-published. I was so proud, and still am, of the story and couldn’t wait to start the final book in the first trilogy. Then life happened. Again. We moved nearly two-thousand miles, and I had to go back to working full time. Graveyard shifts make you crazy. Writing went to the back burner.
